Jubilee 100 years Alpine ibex in Switzerland

A hundred years ago, in 1906, after having been extinct for almost 100 years, the first Alpine ibex came back to Switzerland. Poachers - commissioned by highly respected Swiss personalities! - brought illegally caught ibex kids from the Aosta Valley (Italy) to St. Gallen where they were reared. 

This was the beginning of the most successful re-colonisation of a nearly extinct big mammal species in its original distribution area, the whole Alpine range.
